Effective advocacy in court, including:

  • Effective speaking
  • Observing protocol
  • Presenting oral submissions
  • Presenting opening and closing addresses
  • Conducting examination in chief and re-examination
  • Conducting cross-examination
  • Dealing with objections

Both civil and criminal proceedings:

  • Trainees argue a civil interlocutory application or opposition
  • Trainees conduct a judge alone defended hearing as either counsel for the prosecution or counsel for the defence
  • Trainees appear on a bail application
  • Trainees make a plea in mitigation at sentencing
