IPLS and the NZCLE

The Institute of Professional Legal Studies
The Institute is, strictly, a ‘committee’ of the New Zealand Council of Legal Education.

The Institute has as its Mission:

  • To provide the best possible pre-admission legal training

The Institute has as its Course Aim:

  • To ensure that lawyers entering all areas of practice are equipped with the skills required to represent clients competently and ethically.

The New Zealand Council of Legal Education
The Council is a statutory body, which was set up under the Law Practitioners Act, to be responsible for pre-admission education and training for lawyers.

That includes deciding those subjects that must be passed on a Law Degree by anyone who wishes to be admitted.

The Council accredits providers of post-graduate pre-admission training. It also supervises the Institute.

You can read more about the Council on the New Zealand Council of Legal Education web site.
